Kikuyu content creator Joy Mathenge, popularly known as Wajoy, has urged fans to embrace life, let go of grudges, and prioritise love, just weeks after laying her mother to rest.

In a heartfelt Facebook post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Wajoy reflected on the fragility of life, noting that no one truly knows what the future holds. She said that reaching a certain age often brings with it a deeper awareness of time and how quickly life can pass.

“I looked at these photos, and I told myself no one knows about tomorrow,” she wrote.

The content creator observed that for many people aged 30 and above, there is a high likelihood they may already be halfway through their lives, a realisation she said should push individuals to live more intentionally and avoid unnecessary conflict.

She encouraged her followers to forgive those who have wronged them, love more openly, and avoid carrying emotional burdens that could make life more difficult.

According to her, holding onto anger and resentment only weighs people down and takes away from the joy of living.

“Na, if you’ve reached 30 years and above, the probability of you kuwa umeishi 1st half of your life is very high.2nd half of your life usiwache ikue ngumu, forgive people, love people,” the actress added.

Wajoy further urged her audience to focus on enjoying life and distancing themselves from negativity, emphasising that life is too short to be consumed by bitterness or prolonged disagreements.

She also expressed love to her followers, reminding them to cherish each moment and prioritise peace, forgiveness, and happiness in their daily lives.

“Live your life, wachana na watu, usibebe grudges, and jibambe. Life is too short kuwa na hasira, my dear. Good day, my people. I love you all,” she wrote.

Untimely passing

Wajoy announced the death of her mother, Mary Wangui Mathenge, on October 24, 2025, revealing that she had passed away a day earlier on October 23.

The loss came as a shock to many of her followers, especially since her mother had recently appeared in her skits, where she was widely admired for her lively personality and humour.

In earlier tributes, Wajoy described her mother as a “vibe”, recalling how she would often worry about how she looked in videos, even as she brought joy and authenticity to the content.

Days later, the content creator was overcome with grief during a body viewing at Tumutumu Hospital, where she was seen wailing uncontrollably as she came face-to-face with her mother’s body.

The emotional moment, captured during a livestream, showed the depth of her pain, with friends and family stepping in to support her as she struggled to remain composed.

Her mother, a devoted member of the PCEA Church, was later honoured in a ceremony attended by family, church members, and friends, who gathered to celebrate her life and faith.
