Karangu Muraya confirms date for woman’s burial 3 years after death struck
By Charles Ouma, March 18, 2026After frantic efforts to raise money and viral appeal on social media, gospel singer Karangu Muraya has confirmed that all is set for the burial of a woman who died three years ago, with her family only confirming her death and identifying her body recently.
The philanthropist who stood with the family as they planned to bury the deceased, identified as Jane Wangari, provided an update on social media on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, confirming that all is set for the sombre event on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
“After 3 years of sorrow…. I can now confirm that this beautiful soul, a single mother of two, will be laid to rest tomorrow,” he wrote on Facebook.
He thanked all well-wishers who contributed generously to support the grieving family whose search for their kin ended on March 7, 2016, when her body was identified at a local morgue, three years after her death.
“To all who supported this mission in any way…. May God bless you, Tupatane kesho Ndia, Kirinyaga County,” he added.

Jane’s death in 2023
Jane succumbed to injuries sustained after a hit-and-run accident in Ruiru in December 2023.
“I have seen so many people asking questions about why the body of Jane from Ndia constituency, Kirinyaga County, has been lying in the morgue for the last 3 years since 2023. Jane was hit by a speeding car at Ruiru kihunguro, which left her half dead; the driver ran away,” he stated.
Police officers from Ruiru, where the matter was reported, unsuccessfully attempted to trace the deceased’s family, with similar efforts by Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment, also not yielding any results.
Body identified
Her body was taken to the morgue until March 2026, when her area assistant chief visited the hospital and was attended to by the same doctor who attended to Jane.
Upon learning that the assistant chief comes from the same area as the deceased, the doctor traced Jane’s file, and the chief immediately recognised Jane Wangari, whom the family had been searching for 3 years in vain.
The family positively identified her body, paving the way for her burial, which is set for Thursday, March 19, 2026.

Both the morgue and hospital fee that stood at more than Ksh 2 million, were waived for the family, with Karangu leading efforts to bury her.
