Kamba singer Toby Bisengo shares how his beef with Stephen Kasolo started

By , December 5, 2025

Kamba singer Toby Bisengo Katolo has revealed the origins of his long-standing feud with fellow musician Stephen Kasolo, describing how a disagreement escalated into public insults and ongoing tension in the Kamba music industry.

Speaking in an interview shared on YouTube by Nicholas Kioko on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Toby shared that the spark for the feud came after he posted a video online offering advice and analysis on a trending issue that involved Kasolo.

Toby explained that, as a music mentor to several Kamba artistes he felt a responsibility to step in when young musicians were going astray or starting conflicts.

“The reason Kasolo came and insulted me is that I went online one day and made a video giving a simple analysis and advice about a trending issue. As a music mentor who has mentored many people, including Kioko and other artists in Kamba land, I have the right to speak to them when I see them going astray or starting conflicts. I believe I should be at the forefront, trying to help them calm down their differences,” Toby said.

He noted that his comments were intended to guide and mediate, but Kasolo responded by insulting him.

Toby recalled that the situation escalated so badly to an extent that his lawyers pushed him to press charges for defamation, but he refused, saying he is not a malicious person.

“I had planned to take my matters with Kasolo to court. Kasolo would have been fined and told to pay me a large sum of money, the kind he would have been paying me up until today. He could have ended up paying for 20 years. But I withdrew and decided that other people would deal with him, not me. After that incident, my lawyers really pushed me to take Kasolo to court and make him pay for insulting me. He would have known I am not someone to be trifled with. But I held back because I am not a malicious person,” he added.

The singer shared that he is spiritual rather than religious and that he handled the conflict through reflection and intention rather than revenge.

Toby recalled that he cast words in his home, hoping to protect himself and maintain peace, and added that he believes many of Kasolo’s subsequent misfortunes are connected to this dispute.

“I am not religious, but I am spiritual, and spiritual people never joke around. So do not joke with someone who has the confidence to step away from religion. I went inside my house, cast some words, and said that I have never insulted anyone and that no one would insult me, hoping for peace. I went silent,” he shared.

He added that he finds it surprising that Kasolo has never acknowledged insulting him or offered an apology.

“Since then, Kasolo has faced many misfortunes in his life, and I believe it is because of the words I cast. It is surprising that it has never struck him that he insulted someone and has never apologised,” he said.
