Jimmy Gait shares how real-life moments inspired his hit songs ‘Muhadhara’ and ‘Huratiti’

Veteran gospel musician Jimmy Gait has opened up about the real-life experiences that inspired two of his biggest hits, Muhadhara and Huratiti.
Speaking during a conversation with a local YouTuber in an episode aired on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Jimmy, speaking about Muhadhara, shared a story from a routine matatu ride.
He says the word which he converted to his song title was inspired by a matatu conductor.
“When I was going home, I was in a matatu, then I told the conductor,’ Hey nisimamishe kwa hiyo stage next.’Then he shouts to the driver, ‘Dere dere simamisha haraka tusipatwe na muhadhara.’Hiyo jina mhadhara ikaniingia, and that is how I came up with that song ‘muhadhara’,” Jimmy revealed.
He added that he prayed for the song to become a nationwide hit.

“I was praying that Muhadhara would become the biggest song in the country. I started doing research on the biggest songs that were hitting at that time,” he added.
In addition, he added that when he recorded the song, his producer told him it was destined to be massive.
“When I did the song the producer told me this is going to be the biggest song; however, as big as it was, I was going through something, and I did not have money, and I could not afford to pay rent, and I was kicked out and went back to the village and stayed there for nine months,” he said.
Financial struggle
However, success didn’t come without challenges. Jimmy revealed that during the early days of Muhadhara, he was struggling financially
“By the time muhadhara was hitting, I was in Nyeri, and my brother called me and told me you need to come back to Nairobi; your song is selling everywhere. The virality of the song became so high,” he disclosed.

Huratiti
Speaking about his second hit after Muhadhara, dubbed Huratiti, Jimmy shared how the song was born from personal reflection and the traction Muhadhara made during his lowest moment.
“I freestyled Huratiti. I went to the studio, the producer gave me headphones, I closed my eyes, and I remembered my past struggles,” he added.
For Jimmy Gait, these songs are more than just hits, they are snapshots of his journey, struggles, and dreams.
His story shows that sometimes, real-life moments, even the small, everyday ones, can turn into anthems that resonate across the country.
