Janet Mbugua nominated for top continental award
By Charles Ouma, February 10, 2026Renowned media personality Janet Mbugua is elated after getting nominated for a top continental award.
The award-winning journalist shared the good news of her nomination for the Africa Business Awards 2026 via a statement on her social media platforms on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
She is a nominee in the Creative, Media & Entertainment Industry Excellence Awards category, where she will battle it out with other established names in the industry.
Janet Mbugua reflects on the nomination
Mbugua shared that the nomination made her pause to reflect on all the work she has put in amid criticism and self-doubt.
“Some moments make you pause; this was one of them. This nomination reminded me that when you’re busy looking down, just doing the work, second-guessing yourself, being your own toughest critic, trying to stay true to your voice while also listening to the moment, to the room, to the country, it still counts. Even when you’re not sure, it does.
She shared that she is honoured and urged her followers to support her by voting for her to bag the coveted award.
“I’m honoured to be nominated for the @africanbusinesschamber_afbc Awards 2026,” She wrote.

“Voting is now open, support my nomination,” she said, adding an appreciation note for her fans who have been part of the journey.
Mbugua’s impact and influence
Mbugua has, over the years, built a reputation for speaking with honesty, warmth and purpose while weighing in on trending conversations, relationships and personal experiences.
She also uses her platforms for advocacy and awareness, driving impactful conversations and rallying the public behind causes she believes in.
Gender equality, menstrual health, and girls’ empowerment are some of the areas that she champions.
Through her Inua Dada foundation, the renowned media personality has impacted many lives with her Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) advocacy.

As a notable personality on social media, Mbugua is also aware of the negative side.
She called out rising gender-based violence on social media on November 16, 2025, urging users to show empathy.
“How did laughing at someone’s pain become ‘just jokes’? A lot of what we call banter is cruelty, and with technology-facilitated gender-based violence rising, we cannot pretend it is harmless. It touches women, men, and young people in ways we rarely talk about. Maybe the shift begins with something small. A pause before we post, a moment to choose empathy over noise,” Mbugua stated in an Instagram statement on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
