Renowned media personality Janet Mbugua has spoken about women in their 40s and urged them to trust themselves more.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, March 1, 2026, she said this season is not only about confidence and clarity. “Women in your 40s… can we be honest for a second?” she said as she shared her thoughts on this stage of life.

She said this season also comes with grief and changes in the body.

“This season is not just confidence and clarity. It is also grief,” she said.

She added that the body changes in ways many did not prepare for.

“It is your body changing in ways you did not prepare for.”

She also spoke about perimenopause and how it shows up in different ways. Perimenopause is the transitional period before menopause. During perimenopause, levels of oestrogen start to decrease. One may begin having menopause-like symptoms, such as hot flashes or irregular periods. Perimenopause can last for years.

“It is perimenopause showing up quietly, or loudly,” she said.

She said these changes can be hard, but they are part of this season of life.

A season of change and learning

Janet said that even with the hard parts, this season is not all bad.

“And yet… it is not all bad,” she said.

She spoke about a steadiness that comes with time.

“There is a steadiness that comes. A knowing,” she said as she reflected on what women gain in their 40s.

She said this season brings a refusal to keep shrinking or performing.

“A refusal to keep shrinking or performing,” she said.

She shared that she is still learning and still becoming. “I am still learning. Still becoming,” she said as she spoke about her own journey.

Janet said she now trusts herself more than before.

“But I trust myself more now than I ever have,” she said. She added that this trust matters.

“And that matters,” she said as she spoke about growing into this season with more self-belief.

She said spaces like Walk Your Worth feel important at this stage of life.
