It is just awkward – Mkamburi Chigogo slams men applying gel and Cutex on their nails
Radio presenter Mkamburi Chigogo has given her take on evolving beauty standards, including grooming trends and personal presentation choices embraced by men in Nairobi.
Taking to her Instagram account, the presenter addressed the trend of men applying Cutex and gel polish as well as going for a full manicure.
Mkamburi shared her observation that the trend has taken root in Nairobi, with men redefining fashion in ways that she finds awkward.
In a statement on her Instagram account on Friday, March 20, 2026, the media personality questioned why any man would invest in a manicure.

“Samahani lakini mwanaume, mbona upake cutex sijui gel polish kwa mkono? (I am sorry, but why would a man apply gel polish on his fingernails?) Full manicure?” Mkamburi stated.

Giving her verdict, Mkamburi noted that she has seen the trend gain traction in Nairobi, and she finds it awkward.
“It’s a growing trend in this Nairobi, and it’s just awkward 🥺🙄😅,” she stated.

“If a man invites you to his house on the first date, it’s paramount you rob him,” she said.
According to her, robbing such men will stop what she calls “cheapskate behaviour”.

“It’s important to rob him to end that cheapskate behavior,” she said.
She added that this teaches men not to take women for granted or expect favours without effort and patience.
