‘Hio hairstyle yako iko noma!’- Ruto leaves crowd in stitches as he admires youth’s hair

President William Ruto left many in stitches on Thursday, January 22, 2026, as he praised a young man’s hair on stage at the Kinoru stadium in Meru.

It was after the head of state mentioned the youth’s hair that many burst into laughter as he tried to express his opinion in the local “sheng” language to sound youthful.

Hio hairstyle yako iko noma, inaitwa aje?”

Loosely translated to “you have a good hairstyle, what is it called?”

The young man just laughed and expressed his intention to cut it short by saying that many people think that he is a joker because they believe that for someone to appear focused, they need to move around with a shaved head.

The President, however, told him that there was no need to shave as he looked just fine.

“Hakuna haja ya kupunguza iko sawa.”

“There is no need to shave; it (the hair) is just fine,” said the President.

This came as the head of state was listening to what some of the youth intended to do with government funds once they received their business development cash.

Avoiding waste

On Monday, January 19, 2022, while disbursing the Nyota fund at Kasarani Stadium, Ruto warned the youth against being tempted to spend money meant for business on other things.

“Naskia kuna mtu atakuita sasa ‘Wakudumu’, ‘Bazenga’, ‘Bazuu’, ‘Master’. Hio maneno mjichunge. Kila mtu ajipange na biashara ndio tuweze kusonga mbele pamoja,” Ruto said.

Loosely translating to, “I hear there is someone who will call you big names like ‘Wakudumu’, ‘Bazenga’, ‘Bazuu’, and ‘Master’. Avoid such influences. Everyone should organise themselves around their businesses so that we can move forward together.”

The head of state reaffirmed the government’s dedication to uplifting young people by expanding access to finance, strengthening skills development, and supporting entrepreneurship, noting that accountability and personal responsibility remain crucial to the success of these programs.
