Irene Robert, the acclaimed singer and songwriter known for her angelic vocals and spiritual depth, has tragically passed away in Dar es Salaam following a brief and mysterious illness.

The 34-year-old star’s death was confirmed on the night of Friday, March 20, 2026, leaving fans and fellow worshippers across East Africa in a state of total disbelief.

In a soul-crushing twist of fate, it has emerged that the singer spent her final hours on earth in a marathon spiritual session, before she fell into a sleep from which she would never wake.

The harrowing details of Irene’s final moments were shared by her close friend and collaborator, gospel artiste Walter Chilambo.

In an emotional social media tribute that has since gone viral, Chilambo revealed that despite feeling unwell, Irene’s first instinct was to turn to her faith.

He said the singer spent many hours in deep, fervent prayer throughout the night. When she finally retired to bed, those close to her believed she was simply resting—only to discover the bitter truth the following morning.

In a raw and unfiltered post that has left the industry reeling, Walter Chilambo shared the depth of his grief and the shattering plans that have now been lost to time.

Writing in his original Swahili, he said:

Perhaps the most tear-jerking revelation in Chilambo’s tribute is the mention of Irene’s fiancé, Brian. The couple were in the midst of joyous preparations for their wedding, scheduled for May 2026.

Irene had even requested Chilambo to stand as an official witness to their union—a promise that has now been turned into a harrowing eulogy.

As the news of her death spreads, fans have flocked to her final social media post—a video of her latest song, ‘Neno Moja’ (One Word).

The track, which Chilambo reveals was the final song he wrote for her, has become a haunting anthem for a community struggling to find words for their loss.

Irene was widely known for hit songs such as ‘Soja’, ‘Moyo Dawa’, and ‘Bingwa’. She had collaborated with major East African artistes, including Christina Shusho, Rose Muhando and Guardian Angel.
