Geoffrey Mosiria: Viral woman who smashed bus windscreen had personal dispute with driver

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has claimed that the woman captured in a viral video smashing a bus windscreen was involved in a personal dispute with the driver, contrary to widely circulated claims online.
In a statement shared through his Instagram account on Friday, March 13, 2026, Mosiria said preliminary information reaching his office suggests the incident was not caused by a disagreement over bus fare, as many social media users had claimed.
“Correct information reaching my desk indicates that the lady who threw a rock at the bus, breaking the windscreen, had a personal dispute with the driver, who is reportedly the father of the young girl seen in a school uniform,” Mosiria stated.
According to the county official, the child captured in the viral footage is believed to be the daughter of the two individuals, and the confrontation may have been linked to issues surrounding parental responsibility.
“It appears that the disagreement stems from issues related to the driver allegedly not supporting their daughter. The girl present at the scene is believed to be their child,” he said.
Mosiria further revealed that the matter has since been reported at Central Police Station, where both the driver and the woman recorded statements.
“The matter has now been reported at Central Police Station, and both the driver and the lady have recorded statements. The police will carry out further investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” he added.
He also dismissed the narrative circulating online that the confrontation was triggered by a dispute over change after the woman allegedly paid Ksh1,000 and was not refunded the balance by the conductor.
“Contrary to the narrative circulating online that the incident was caused by a dispute over change after she allegedly paid Ksh1,000 and the conductor refused to refund the balance, this appears to be misinformation being spread by online bloggers,” Mosiria said.
“From the information reaching my desk, this is a personal matter involving two people who were once in a relationship and share a child.”
Viral bus smashing incident
The clarification comes after a dramatic video circulated widely on social media showing a furious woman confronting a bus crew in a busy Nairobi street before smashing the vehicle’s windscreen with a stone.
In the footage, the woman is seen standing near the bus while a young girl in a school uniform stands close by. Moments later, she hurls a stone at the front of the bus, shattering the windscreen as stunned onlookers watch the scene unfold.
The clip quickly spread online, sparking heated reactions and speculation, with many initially believing the confrontation was between a passenger and a matatu crew over fare or change.
What appeared to be a routine public transport stop suddenly turned into street drama, drawing a crowd of curious passers-by who watched the tense exchange.
