Geoffrey Mosiria shares update on 14-year-old rescued from child marriage
By Ascah Mwango, May 12, 2026Nairobi’s Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has revealed that the 14-year-old girl rescued from child marriage in Kasarani is safe and recovering at a secure shelter.
In a statement shared through his X account on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Mosiria said the teenager was receiving care and support after being rescued from what he described as an illegal arrangement involving an older man.
“I wish to report that the 14-year-old girl we rescued from Kasarani, where she had allegedly been subjected to an illegal child marriage to an older man, is doing well at the safe house,” Mosiria stated.
The chief officer noted that the girl was in stable condition and slowly adjusting to life away from the difficult environment she had been living in. He added that officials handling the matter were focused on protecting her rights and ensuring she gets a second chance at a normal childhood.
“She is safe, stable, and happy, and is receiving the care and protection she deserves,” he said.

Mosiria further disclosed that the teenager had expressed fear and reluctance about returning home following the ordeal she allegedly went through. According to him, the young girl has chosen to remain away from her parents for now as investigations and support processes continue.
“At the moment, she has expressed that she does not wish to return home or meet her parents because of what she was subjected to,” he explained.
The case has sparked renewed concern over child marriages and the vulnerability of young girls in some communities, despite strict laws protecting children from exploitation and forced unions. Child rights activists have often warned that many victims are denied education, freedom and the chance to experience a normal childhood, exchanging school books for responsibilities they are far too young to carry.
Amid the painful circumstances, Mosiria said the teenager still carries a simple but powerful dream — returning to school and living like other children her age.
“Her only wish is to go back to school and enjoy the childhood every child deserves, just like her peers,” he stated.
He maintained that the county government and relevant agencies would continue supporting the girl as efforts to secure justice and rebuild her future move forward.
“We remain committed to ensuring that her rights are protected and that she is allowed to rebuild her future through education and proper support,” Mosiria added.
