Gachagua stirs Nyeri with fleet of luxurious vehicles during launch of Niko Kadi Nyeri chapter

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua caused a stir at the colourful launch of a voter registration drive exercise in Nyeri County on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Flanked by other politicians, Gachagua’s team arrived in a long convoy of luxurious vehicles that snaked its way along the roads, with the former DP addressing a series of roadside rallies.

The DCP leader backed the youth, saying that they are on the right track to achieve what saw them take to the streets in June 2024.

“This vote that the young people are taking will enable them to achieve what they wanted in June 2024 when they took to the streets in protests. They wanted transparency, good governance, good education and healthcare, as well as a country governed by the rule of law. They are on the right track,” he said.

Several people in the crowd were also seen wearing branded T-shirts and caps in support of their different aspirants who joined them.

Organisers of the original Niko Kadi/Tuko Kadi have, in the past, made it clear that at the moment they are not affiliated to any political party, with their goal being to mobilise eligible Kenyans to register as voters.

They have also cautioned the political elite against hijacking the initiative, insisting that they will fiercely defend it.

Attempts by politicians to hijack Niko Kadi

Allans Ademba, who is among those behind the initiative, confirmed turning down lucrative offers from politicians who approached him with deals to fund his campaigns and provide fully-branded trucks.

“I have received a phone call while in your waiting lobby… The call was, ‘Ademba, we are going to give you a lorry; we have branded them with #TukoKadi.’ Those were the calls. Sad to say, they even said they have branded me with my face, my friend; don’t try that,” Ademba stated.

He turned down the offers, making it clear that, unlike past initiatives that did not achieve the intended goals after politicians hijacked them, Niko Kadi/Tuki Kadi will not suffer the same fate.
