First burial meeting held after sudden death of Tanzanian singer Chidi Benz’s mum

The meeting was held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, and was attended by a host of Tanzanian singers and celebrities at their rural home in eastern Tanzania.
In a video shared on Instagram by Bongo Unlocked, the artistes are seen arriving in their droves at Chidi’s home and giving him warm hugs as the burial committee was being set up.
Among the key artistes who attended included revered Tanzanian media personality Dullah Planet, who also took time to speak comforting words to Chidi and his family following the untimely development.
Others included politician Steven Nyerere, hip-hop artiste Fid Q, and Gnako WaWarawara, among others.
In the video, the artistes are seen joining community members who were seated in an open area at Chidi Benz’s home and giving emotional speeches in honour of her soul.
Untimely passing
The revered Tanzanian singer’s mum passed away on the night of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, leaving family, friends, and fans across East Africa in shock and deep sorrow.
Chidi Benz announced her sudden death in an Instagram post the same day, confirming that she breathed her last unexpectedly.

According to reports, the tragic development occurred late Wednesday night. However, the exact cause of her death has not yet been publicly disclosed, with the family indicating that further details will be shared in due course.
Following the heartbreaking loss, relatives, close friends, and members of the entertainment fraternity gathered at Chidi Benz’s home in Chanika, Dar es Salaam, where mourning and prayer sessions have been ongoing.
The atmosphere has been one of grief and reflection as loved ones continue to offer support to the rapper during this painful period.
Chid Benz, a respected figure in East Africa’s hip-hop scene, is widely celebrated for his collaborations with regional heavyweights including Diamond Platnumz, Ali Kiba, and Kenya’s Khaligraph Jones.
Over the years, he has built strong artistic and personal ties within the East African music industry, earning admiration both at home and abroad.
Notably, Bi Hawa’s passing comes just days before the anticipated release of Uspimee, a major collaboration between Chid Benz and Khaligraph Jones.
The Kenyan rapper had earlier described the project as a powerful musical partnership between the two artistes. As of the time of reporting, Khaligraph had not publicly commented on the tragic loss.
