Family confirms death of Alexx Ekubo after cancer battle

The family of Nollywood actor Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke has confirmed his death, saying he passed away after a brief battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the family revealed that Ekubo died at Evercare Hospital after complications from the illness.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke. After a brief but courageous battle, Alexx passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer,” the statement read in part.
The family described his final days as marked by strength and quiet endurance, saying he held on to hope even during his most difficult moments.
“He bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world,” they said.
They have since requested privacy as they mourn and prepare for funeral arrangements, noting that further details will be shared later.
“During this deeply painful time, we humbly ask for privacy and prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the family stated.
Adding;
“Further details regarding funeral arrangements and other family matters will be communicated in due course. We sincerely thank everyone for the love, support, prayers, and understanding extended to the family.”
Ekubo’s career
Alexx Ekubo built a notable career in Nollywood as an actor, model, and public personality. He first gained public attention after finishing as first runner-up at Mr Nigeria 2010, a moment that helped open doors into the entertainment industry and fashion world.
