Kenyan lady’s joy of returning from Gulf turns to tears after finding mum’s grave at home: ‘wenye huzuni’

A Kenyan woman who spent years working in the Gulf has left social media users heartbroken after sharing the emotional moment she returned home, only to come face-to-face with the grave of the mother she had left behind alive.
In a video shared on TikTok on Friday, July 24, 2026, the woman, known as Pendo, appeared overwhelmed with grief as she stood beside the grave in her family compound, visibly struggling to come to terms with the painful reality that her long-awaited homecoming would not end with an embrace from her mother.
In the emotional video, Pendo is seen walking towards the grave dressed in a purple tracksuit, with the matching top and trousers adding to the sombre scene as she slowly approaches the mound of soil.
The moment appears to hit her hard as she reaches the grave and touches the huge mound of soil, seemingly trying to process the reality before her eyes.
She then walks around the grave, appearing visibly distressed and disoriented, as though the weight of the loss has suddenly come crashing down on her.
At one point, Pendo stands in the middle of the grave area and places both hands on her head.
The TikToker shared the video using the hit gospel song ‘Malengo Ya Mungu’ by Israel Mbonyi, leaving her fans sending comforting messages.
In the caption, the lady reflected on the pain of spending years working in the Gulf before returning home to find her mother had died.
She said the experience was particularly painful because she had left her mother alive and full of life before travelling abroad.
“Imagine the pain of spending years in the Gulf and finally coming home to find no one to welcome you but meeting with your mum while in the grave when you left her full of life,” she wrote.
The pain of the moment was further brought into focus when Pendo showed the children she had left behind when she travelled to the Gulf.
In another emotional part of the video, she is seen embracing the children as the sad music continues to play in the background, creating a poignant picture of a family reunion that was incomplete without the presence of the woman she had once hoped to return home to.
