“I wanted the title to remain in Kenya”: Fidel Castro’s emotional speech after Vurugu victory
By Steve Ireri, June 21, 2026Fidphil Castro delivered an emotional message after securing a major victory against Anthony Gachau Njoroge at the Vurugu 2 boxing event, explaining that his motivation was to keep the victory on Kenyan soil and restore pride after some of the country’s fighters had suffered defeats.
Fidphil defeated Gachau via a round-six technical knockout (TKO) in the highly anticipated bout organised by promoter Oga Obinna at the Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands, Nairobi.
Following the intense contest, Fidphil took time to address fans, revealing that his victory carried a bigger meaning beyond just winning the fight.
The boxer said he stepped into the ring determined to ensure Kenya remained represented after fellow Kenyan entertainers Arrow Bwoy and Alfayo had lost their respective bouts.
“Hey yo, my people. I did go after this win because I wanted the title to remain in Kenya,” Fidphil said.
He acknowledged that Ugandan fighter Shakib Cham had secured victory for Uganda after defeating Kenyan musician Arrow Bwoy, but explained that his own win was important in helping Kenya recover from the earlier losses.
“I know Shakib has won for Uganda in his match against Arrow Bwoy, but I have done this so I can also cover Arrow Bwoy and Alfayo, who lost in another match. We are at home, and we had to win,” he said.

Fidphil also dedicated the victory to event organiser Oga Obinna, saying he wanted to give him a special birthday gift since both of them celebrate their birthdays in the same month.
“And thanks to the organiser of this, Mr Obinna, I also got this win for him. Because it’s my birthday and his birthday is also this month. So we are Gemini and Gemini forever,” he said.
The fighter went on to praise Obinna, adding that he believed nobody could challenge him.
“And no one can fight Obinna,” Fidphil added.
Inside the ring, Fidphil produced a dominant display against Gachau, with the contest eventually being stopped in the sixth round after the referee intervened and awarded him a technical knockout victory.
The fight had been among the highly anticipated matchups on the Vurugu 2 card, bringing together two entertainers who had built anticipation ahead of their meeting.
Following the stoppage, Gachau was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation as a precaution after the intense bout.
Fidphil’s victory formed part of a dramatic night of boxing at Vurugu 2, which featured celebrity clashes, professional boxing encounters and entertainment performances.
Other fighters who emerged victorious during the event included Shakib Cham, who defeated Arrow Bwoy by technical knockout, Fatuma “Iron Fist” Zarika, who stopped Tanzania’s Najma Isike by technical knockout, Salim Amoit, who defeated Deogratious by unanimous decision, and Tyson Mauru, who beat Clinton by unanimous decision.
