Bien and other African artists who headlined Afro Nation with outstanding shows

By , July 5, 2026

Afro Nation Portugal has once again turned Praia da Rocha in Portimão into a meeting point for music lovers from across the world, with a packed line-up bringing together Afrobeats, Amapiano, R&B and hip-hop stars.

The three-day festival, which took place from July 3, 2026, to July 5, 2026, drew attention for its mix of established global names and African acts whose music continues to travel far beyond their home countries.

Among the performers expected to stand out is Kenyan singer Bien, who joined a lineup led by Burna Boy, Wizkid, Asake, Tyla and other major names. His appearance gave Kenyan fans another reason to follow the festival, especially as Afro Nation continues to grow as one of the biggest platforms for African music.

Bien brings Kenyan sound to Portugal

Bien is among the most notable East African acts on the Afro Nation Portugal programme.

The singer has built a strong solo career after years of success in a popular Kenyan music group. His sound moves between Afropop, R&B and soul, making his music easy to connect with across different audiences.

His songs have helped him gain listeners outside Kenya. His stage performances are also known for live vocals, smooth movement and a close connection with the crowd.

For many Kenyan music fans, Bien’s appearance at Praia da Rocha was more than a festival booking. It shows how Kenyan artistes are slowly finding more space on international stages that were once mainly dominated by West and South African performers.

Burna Boy brings energy

Nigerian singer Burna Boy remains one of the biggest names at Afro Nation Portugal.

The Grammy-winning artiste performed on the opening day, bringing a catalogue filled with songs that have become festival favourites.

Burna Boy has performed at Afro Nation several times and remains closely linked to the festival’s rise. His music blends Afrobeats, reggae, dancehall and hip-hop, giving his live set a sound that works well for a large outdoor audience.

Tyla continues her global rise

South African singer Tyla was another key performer at this year’s event.

The singer’s rise has been fast, helped by the global success of Water, which introduced her music to listeners in different parts of the world. Her sound mixes pop, R&B and Amapiano, making her one of the younger artistes drawing major attention at the festival.

Her performance brought a softer but still energetic feel to the opening day, especially for fans who have followed her growing international career.

Asake keeps Afrobeats fans moving

Asake brought his lively sound and strong stage presence to the Portugal crowd.

The Nigerian singer has become known for songs that mix Fuji-inspired rhythms, street pop and modern Afrobeats. Hits such as Lonely at the Top, Sungba and Amapiano have made him one of the most played artistes in recent years.

His music is built for movement, and his set is likely to be one of the moments where the crowd stays on its feet from start to finish.

Wizkid

Wizkid was among those who closed the festival, bringing years of hit songs and a calm but confident performance style.

The Nigerian star has played a major role in taking Afrobeats to global audiences. His songs, including Essence, Ojuelegba and Come Closer, remain popular with fans across Africa, Europe and the United States.

His closing set brought together old fans and younger listeners who have discovered his music through the newer wave of Afrobeats.

Uncle Waffles

South African DJ and producer Uncle Waffles brought the Amapiano sound to the beach festival.

She has become one of the leading names in the genre, earning attention for her energetic DJ sets and ability to keep crowds dancing for long hours. Her rise has also helped introduce Amapiano to more listeners outside South Africa.

Her performance added a different feel to the festival, with deep long drums, dance beats and songs that have become popular in clubs and parties across Africa and beyond.

Afro Nation Portugal continues to show how African music has become part of the global festival scene. With Bien flying the Kenyan flag alongside some of the continent’s biggest names, the Portimão event offers a clear picture of how wide African music has grown.
