‘Eti mnasema ICU, pia mimi I see you’: Gaucho reacts to viral memes
Calvince Okoth, famously known as Gaucho, has finally admitted that he is very much aware of the trending memes mocking him over the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital board member role.
Speaking to a local podcast on Saturday, April 25, 2026, Gaucho once again defended his appointment by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The outspoken activist said he had seen the insults, jokes, and edited photos that flooded social media after he visited Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for his first day at work on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

He saw it
Kenyans turned his appointment into a comedy show, editing his official photos into doctors’ scrubs, medical aprons, and hospital rooms.
Others imagined him handling serious medical cases despite having no medical training.
Some of the memes joked, “Hao wamama wako na mimba wapelekwe kwa Ministry of Labour,” while another read, “Hao wagonjwa wa cardiac arrest, police watadeal na wao.”
Another viral joke claimed, “Tunaweza leta Waluhya kumi wadeal na hii chicken pox,” as Kenyans continued poking fun at his new role.
In one of the most shared responses, Gaucho appeared to laugh off the jokes, saying, “Eti mnasema ICU, pia mimi I see you.” The line quickly went viral, giving the debate around his appointment a fresh comic twist.
Still, Gaucho insisted that critics had misunderstood his role.
According to him, he was not appointed to treat patients, but to represent ordinary people who depend on public hospitals.

“Mama Lucy Hospital, nimeona watu wananitusi. Hawajui mtu wa kutusi kwa sababu Mama Lucy ni hospitali ya wanaghetto, Kayole, Korogocho, Mathare, Kibera. Sasa mtu anatoka Muthaiga, analalamikia hospitali yetu wana ghetto, ati nani ameletwa,” he said.
The clarification from Gaucho comes days after he shocked netizens after openly admitting that class 6 is the highest level of education he achieved and that he does not feel sorry about it.
Tears flow
During the same interview, the activist broke down while reflecting on his journey with the late Raila Odinga’s family and the attacks he has faced online.
Gaucho became emotional while speaking about past rumours that linked him to Ida Odinga.
He said the claims deeply hurt him because they dragged a family he respects into public mockery.
“Nobody thinks about that family. Just the other day, people were sharing silly photos of Mama and me,” he said.
He added that some of those spreading the rumours were leaders who had once benefited from Raila’s support.

The activist also said Raila’s death left him exposed to attacks he believes would not have happened before.
“Baba really hurt me by dying before I became an MP. Some things would not have happened,” he said.
Gaucho has since thanked Sakaja, President William Ruto and the Odinga family, saying the appointment opened a new chapter in his life.
Despite the memes and criticism, he maintained that people from humble backgrounds deserve space at decision-making tables.
