Doja Cat reveals mental health struggle with borderline personality disorder

American Singer Doja Cat has opened up about her mental health, revealing that she has been struggling with borderline personality disorder (BPD) for years.

In a TikTok video posted on Saturday, March 14, 2026, the 30-year-old artist shared a personal update about her emotional journey and the challenges of living with the condition.

During the video, Doja Cat explained that she had spent much of her life pretending everything was fine, masking her real emotions and struggles.

“I’ve learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I’m happy, to pretend that I don’t like stuff that I do, to appear like everything is okay,” she said.

The Grammy-winning star admitted that the pressure of hiding those feelings eventually caught up with her.

“I’ll get it done. And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people,” she said. “I’m now struggling with BPD.”

According to the World Health Organisation(WHO), borderline personality disorder is a mental health condition that affects how individuals see themselves and others, often leading to unstable relationships, intense emotions, and impulsive behaviour.

Therapy and healing

Despite the challenges, the “Paint the Town Red” hitmaker said therapy has played a major role in helping her manage the condition.

She revealed that she has been in therapy for several years and is proud of the progress she has made.

“I’ve been in therapy for years now, and I am so relieved and so proud of myself,” she said. “I’ve made it so far, and I still make mistakes.”

Doja Cat added that the journey has been about treatment, growth, and learning to be honest with herself, something she said took years to understand.

Speaking up

The singer’s comments came as she defended fellow pop star Chappell Roan against criticism after the artist was filmed confronting paparazzi who continued recording her after she asked them to leave.

Doja Cat said she admired Roan’s confidence and ability to stand up for herself publicly.

“I had to learn how to be honest,” she said. “I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life.”

She added that seeing Roan confidently protect her boundaries showed her that people can be authentic without hurting others.

Doja Cat has previously spoken about prioritising therapy and self-care, including in an earlier interview where she said she regularly attends therapy sessions to ensure she is mentally and emotionally well.
