Diana Bahati’s ex-nanny Irene reveals personal fears after SDA singer Mary Claire’s acid attack
By Steve Ireri, March 28, 2026Diana Bahati’s former nanny, Irene Nekesa, has opened up about the profound impact of the brutal acid attack on SDA singer Mary Claire, revealing that the incident has left her shaken and fearful for her own safety.
Speaking in a video shared on her YouTube channel on Saturday, March 28, 2026, Irene explained that while the attack was carried out by someone close to Mary Claire, it has raised broader concerns about personal safety and violence.
At the same time, while Claire and the perpetrator were members of the SDA church, Irene emphasised that such acts are not limited to the SDA church but occur across society.
“I wanted to comment on the story of Mary Claire from Kisii. She was a choir member, and by the way, if you don’t know, I am also an SDA church member. Let me start by saying I am sorry for what happened. That incident has made people think the SDA church is very bad,” she said.
Irene shared that the attack has changed the way she views her own daily life, noting that she now fears for her safety in public spaces, particularly because of her appearance.
She admitted that she constantly worries that someone could similarly target her, such as pouring hot water or acid on her.
The incident has also made her reconsider her perspectives on relationships and marriage, with heightened concern over potential dangers when stepping out or forming romantic commitments.
“On a personal level, I am worried. I wonder, with my beautiful face, what if one day someone does something like pouring hot water on me? We are worried because of that incident, and we are even worried about getting married,” she stated.

She expressed deep sympathy for Mary Claire and her family, acknowledging the emotional trauma the singer has endured and emphasising the need for support and prayers for her recovery.
“I want to say to Mary Claire’s family that we are sorry, and we are praying for her to heal. I have also seen comments on the story, and I would say the man did not do well,” she added.
Irene then condemned the actions of the perpetrator, pointing out that such behaviour was unacceptable and inexcusable.
She stressed the importance of justice and community support in protecting victims and preventing similar incidents in the future.
“But the world right now is not moving well, and it’s not only in the SDA church where such things happen; these things happen outside as well. I recently saw in Thika a man being killed by another man, and that man was not from the SDA church. It’s only because the perpetrator of the act against Mary Claire was an SDA that the church is being judged this way,’ she said.
