Diamond Platnumz reveals actions he took after his son expressed desire to become a gamer
By Steve Ireri, April 2, 2026Tanzanian music superstar Diamond Platnumz has recalled a moment when he deleted his son’s YouTube account after the child expressed interest in pursuing gaming professionally.
Speaking during an interview with a local Bongo radio station on Thursday, April 2, 2026, the singer explained that one day, his son told him he wanted to become a gamer.
Diamond was initially shocked and uncertain, questioning whether playing video games could genuinely be a career. He recalled how his son had even opened a YouTube account to post videos of himself playing games, which alarmed him further.
Concerned about the legitimacy and future prospects of gaming, Diamond deleted the account, fearing that it might distract his son from more traditional or stable career paths.
“One day my son told me he wanted to become a gamer. I was surprised and wondered how that could be a career. He even opened a YouTube account to post videos of himself playing games. I was very worried, so I deleted the account,” Diamond said.

After the initial reaction, Diamond said he took time to reflect privately on his decision. He realised that many young people today are exploring unconventional professions and earning significant income through new digital platforms.
He observed that the world has changed and that being overly rigid or dismissive could prevent children from discovering talents that might ultimately bring them success.
“Later, I reflected and realised I needed to be open-minded. But I sat alone and reflected, wondering if I was doing the right thing. You never know what potential lies in a child,” he added.
Diamond noted that while gaming may seem unfamiliar to parents, it is increasingly recognised as a professional pursuit in many parts of the world.
He cited examples of successful individuals who have built careers from gaming and content creation, acknowledging that young people today can generate wealth and opportunities in ways that previous generations might not have imagined.
“Many parents, when kids start something new, do not understand. I thought maybe if he became a gamer, he could make a lot of money. You see, many people start somewhere. I realised we should not be like old-fashioned parents who tell children to only become doctors or similar,” Diamond added.

Reflecting on the experience, Diamond stated that he wants to be a parent who adapts to modern times rather than imposing outdated expectations.
He stressed the importance of understanding children’s aspirations and helping them explore their talents safely, even if those interests initially seem unconventional.
“The world is changing. So my son says he wants to be a gamer. I did research and saw people like T-Pain making a lot of money just by being gamers. I will make sure he does something he loves, as much as God allows me to guide him,” he shared.
