Dem Wa Facebook says some women are now using the Russian guy scandal to chase clout.

She expressed disappointment over how some of the ladies who were defended for being disrespected and taken advantage of by the “Russian Guy” are now exploiting the same incident for attention.

“It’s sad to see how the same ladies we’re defending and voicing our support for being disrespected and taken advantage of by the ‘Russian Guy’, some of them are now using the same incident to clout chase,” she said.

She added, “Saa zingine pia sisi kutetewa ni ngumu.”

The Russian national, identified as Yaytseslav, also known as Vyacheslav Trahov, has drawn attention across Africa, particularly in Ghana and Kenya. Reports indicate that he used smart glasses to secretly record women during public interactions and in private spaces such as hotel rooms and Airbnbs.

His videos were later shared widely on social media platforms, including TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. Authorities have warned that this behaviour is illegal and a serious invasion of privacy.

DCI urges victims to come forward

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has expressed serious concern over the non-consensual recording and circulation of intimate videos involving Kenyan women.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the DCI urged affected individuals, whether victims or witnesses, to report and record statements at DCI headquarters. The agency emphasised that all statements would be handled with utmost confidentiality, sensitivity, and respect for the privacy and well-being of complainants.

The DCI strongly condemned the acts, describing them as serious violations of privacy, personal dignity, and the rights of victims as protected under the Constitution of Kenya.

Officials noted that investigations are ongoing and that anyone found guilty of participating in or sharing such material would face legal consequences. The agency reassured the public that it is taking all necessary steps to safeguard the rights of the victims and ensure justice is served.

Dem Wa Facebook’s comments come amid growing public attention on the Russian guy scandal. She highlighted the difficulty in defending women when some are perceived to use incidents of harassment for clout.

“Saa zingine pia sisi kutetewa ni ngumu,” she said, stressing that defending victims should remain about support and not personal gain.
