Dama Wa Mobile goes on rant after TikToker claims she is not fluent in English

Popular city businesswoman Damaris Muriithi, widely known as Dama Wa Mobile, has responded strongly after a TikToker questioned her fluency in English while commenting on her online content.

Speaking during a live session shared on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Dama dismissed the criticism, saying she does not believe in pretending to be what she is not, adding that she cannot fake fluency in English just to impress people online.

She noted that while some people may be fluent in English, it does not necessarily translate into practical success in real life, especially when it comes to business and financial transactions.

“I saw someone writing for me there. Speak fluent English. Now, let me say I would love to speak fluent English, but I cannot. Imagine I cannot. And the reason is that I do not know how to fake things. I do not know how to fake, hence I cannot fake knowing fluent English. But you who know it, it is okay,” the businesswoman said.

Dama Wa Mobile further argued that communication should not be limited to perfect English, saying she is comfortable using broken English when interacting with people in different environments, including during her time in China.

She also pointed out that she was seated next to a Chinese man during her travel experience, noting that even he did not speak fluent English but was knowledgeable in areas such as production and factory work.

According to her, real value lies in skills and knowledge, not just language fluency, adding that she personally understands how to handle money transactions, including converting currencies.

“But see, in this plane, there is this Chinese guy seated here next to me also. He does not know it, either, but he knows all the factories and production stuff. And you are there with your fluent English, nothing else. You are there with your fluent English, but you do not know how to change money into dollars,” she clarified.

The businesswoman acknowledged that some viewers may have laughed at her remarks during the live session, but insisted that she is confident in her abilities despite not being fluent in English.

She also took time to clarify that she does not despise education, stating that she actually values it and has even enrolled back in school to further her studies.

“I do not know fluent English, but as far as I know, the English for transacting money into different currencies, I am good to go. I see some of you in the live laughing. I would wish to speak fluent English, but it does not help at all. Actually, here in China, where I am now, we speak broken English with the locals. But let people not think that I hate education because of that, no. I love it, and actually that is why I enrolled back in school,” she added.
