Cukura Ya Nairobi explains circumstances that led to his arrest after days in police custody

Facebook influencer Cukura Ya Nairobi has spoken out following his arrest, claiming that the incident that led to his detention was misinterpreted and resulted in what he describes as a wrongful arrest after a confrontation involving a speeding tourist vehicle.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, April 23, 2026, he recounted a series of events he says began weeks earlier when he and his associates were attacked by armed robbers along a bypass near Maina wa OTC church.

“I’m Cukura wa Nairobi. I was arrested together with my brothers, Macro kachupa, Cukura Njega, and Bodyguard ya Uria wari Cukura ya Nairobi,” he wrote.

He stated that during the incident, their vehicle was damaged, with windows smashed, but they managed to escape unharmed.

He further explained that they later reported the matter to police, who he claims offered protection as investigations into insecurity in the area continued.

“About two months ago, we were attacked by robbers along the bypass near Maina wa OTC church. One of our cars was hit, windows smashed with pangas, but by God’s grace we escaped. The next day, we reported to the police and were even given protection as they worked to restore peace in that area,” he added.

He went on to explain that the situation escalated on a separate occasion after a prayer meeting, when he and his group were heading home and encountered a speeding tourist vehicle.

According to him, the vehicle’s movement caused panic among members of the public, including mothers and children who were present at the scene.

Cukura stated that attempts were made to stop the vehicle after concerns were raised over the danger it posed, but the occupants fled, leaving the driver behind as an angry crowd gathered. He said that in an effort to restore order, they intervened and escorted the driver to a police station for further handling of the matter.

“Then on Monday, after prayers, as we were heading home, we encountered a speeding tourist vehicle. It nearly caused harm, mothers and children were screaming. We tried to stop it, but the occupants fled, leaving the driver behind as an angry crowd turned on him,” he added.

However, he claims that despite their intentions to assist in maintaining order and handing over the matter to authorities, the situation took an unexpected turn, and the case was instead directed against them, leading to their arrest.

“We stepped in and took him to the police station… but somehow the case was turned against us, and we were arrested,” he wrote.

Cukura further stated that they were later released and are now safely at home, expressing gratitude for their supporters and those who stood by them during the ordeal.

He also thanked police officers for what he described as professional handling during their detention, even as he maintained that the charges brought against them were unclear and unjust.

He urged unity among his supporters, particularly within the Mt Kenya region, calling for togetherness and discouraging division. He emphasised that people should lead with integrity and avoid being influenced by money or personal interests that could weaken community bonds.

“Today, we are all home safe and sound, and for that, we thank God first. 🙏 To everyone who stood with us, supported us, and spoke up for us, thank you. We are truly grateful. The police officers handled us well, and we respect them. But the truth is, the charges were unclear and felt unfair. To my Mt Kenya people, let’s stay united. Let’s not allow division or money to break our bond. Let’s lead with heart, not greed, and stand for what is right,” he wrote.

Cukura added that while he would remain silent for the time being, he is closely observing developments and will speak at an appropriate time, insisting that he reserves the right to express himself in a democratic society.

“I may stay quiet for now, but I see everything and I hear everything. And when the time comes, I will speak, because this is a democratic country, and we all have a right to our voice. I stand strong, clean, and covered by God’s love, and your support,” he wrote.
