Ciru Muriuki opens up on weight loss injection

Digital creator Ciru Muriuki has shared details of her weight loss journey, revealing that she has been on a weight loss injection as part of a lifestyle change.
She spoke about the experience during an interview with BBC Africa News, where she reflected on how age and health concerns pushed her to take action.
Ciru said her weight gain happened gradually as she got older. In her 20s, losing weight felt easy and required little effort. Things changed in her 30s when her metabolism slowed, and weight gain became easier. By the time she turned 43, she no longer liked what she saw in the mirror and began to feel the effects on her body.
She explained that the issue was not about outside pressure or public opinion. Her joints began to hurt, she felt short of breath after climbing a few stairs, and simple daily movements became uncomfortable.
“Let’s first talk about how I got to that weight. I’m 43 years old, and as we get older, our metabolism gradually changes. When I was in my 20s, all I had to think about was losing weight, and it went on. As I entered my 30s, all I had to do was drive fast past a fast-food joint. I looked at the mirror, and I did not like what I saw. I asked myself how I got here. That had nothing to do with external factors; my joints started to suffer, I was out of breath after climbing a few stairs, and that was kind of ridiculous because I’ve always been an active person,” Ciru shared.
Adding;
“I started to snore, snoring like a generator. My fiancé, God rest his soul, we started to fight when he told me that I was snoring, and I could not believe it, so he recorded it. That is the point where I decided I had to make a change.”

Despite always being an active person, her body was struggling. She also started snoring heavily, something that surprised her and became a point of concern at home. That moment made her realise she needed to make a serious change.
Ciru said starting the treatment helped her rethink her relationship with food. She noticed a major shift from her younger years when she would snack often and constantly think about eating. The injection helped quiet those constant food cravings and allowed her to focus on other important parts of her life.

She added that even when she is not taking the injection, the change in mindset would remain. The treatment is for a limited period of six months and is expected to end in February. According to Ciru, food no longer controls her thoughts, and that mental change has been just as important as the physical weight loss.
“One of the things being on the treatment has helped is that it changed how I relate to food. I remember when I was young, I was constantly making trips to the fridge for a snack. The injectible that I’m on has quieted all that noise, and I’m able to concentrate on things that matter rather than constantly craving food even when I’m off the jab, because I’m on it for only six months, I get off on February. I now don’t have food on my mind all the time,” she shared.
