Crystal Asige elated after senator Cherargei offered to sponsor her reggae album

Nominated senator and talented musician Crystal Asige has expressed her excitement after Nandi senator Samson Cherargei offered to sponsor her upcoming album.

The elated musician who spoke on the floor of the senate thanked Cherargei who had expressed his intentions to support her music.

“Thank you very much speaker for this opportunity to inform senator Cherargei over a fact that he might not have been aware of before this moment. Yes, as an awarding-winning musician I have many songs that I have composed and produced,” Asige said.

Album launch

She also took the opportunity to invite members of parliament to the launch of the album, hoping that senator Cherargei also attends the event apart from offering to sponsor.

“It will be of great enjoyment for the senator to know that one of my upcoming albums will be a reggae album and I would hope that he also attends the launch of that particular album. I will be inviting every member of parliament who enjoys reggae music because nobody can stop reggae,” she added.

Asige on Friday, May 24, 2024, took to her social media pages to share the news about her upcoming album launch and heaped praises on Cherargei for his support.

“Senator Cherargei has ever so kindly offered to sponsor my Reggae album because he knows that nobody can stop Reggae! You’re a good man Senator for Nandi,” she posted.

Crystal Asige became a senator in Kenya’s parliament and has officially represented people with disabilities since 2022.

She lost her eyesight to glaucoma in her early 20s. Glaucoma is a condition in which the eye pressure builds up, which damages the optic nerve. The prognosis was grim.

She released her first album, Karibia (Get Closer), in 2014. The album received accolades for its vibrant sound. Pulled Under, a single from the album, climbed to No.1 on one of the UK charts in 2016.

Activism

Before embarking on a career in politics, she jocularly referred to herself as “VIP”, short for “visually impaired person”.

Her activism was partly triggered by her experience of contending with bullies on the nursery school playground.

Instead of complaining to her parents, she would return home and sing about it.
