Vanessa Mdee reveals why Rotimi’s ‘God with us’ film moved her to tears

Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee has opened up about her emotional reaction to her husband Rotimi’s upcoming faith-based film God With Us, revealing that watching its trailer brought her to tears.

In a post on Facebook on Thursday, August 20, 2026, Vanessa shared her pride in Rotimi, who stars in the film and also serves as one of its executive producers.

Vanessa said she already knew the project would be special because of the work and prayers that went into bringing the film to life.

Vanessa gets emotional

The singer said watching the trailer for the first time was an emotional experience, particularly because she understood the effort behind the production.

“But I promise you… watching this trailer for the first time brought me to tears,” Vanessa said.

She praised Rotimi and Jimmy Got Soul, the film’s writer, producer and director, for coming together to create what she described as a meaningful piece of work.

Vanessa said the project was more than just a film, noting that she was particularly moved by the faith and dedication behind its creation.

“I know the WORK that went into this. But even more than that, I know the PRAYER that went into it,” she wrote.

Rotimi stars in film

Rotimi plays a starring role in God With Us and is also an executive producer on the project.

Vanessa said she was proud to see her husband use his creativity and talents to bring the Gospel to the big screen.

“My husband not only stars in this film, but also serves as an Executive Producer, and I couldn’t be prouder,” she wrote.

She described God With Us as a “beautiful body of work” and said the film ultimately reflects the message of Emmanuel, meaning “God With Us.”

Film set for release

The film is scheduled to open in select theatres on Friday, November 13, 2026.

Vanessa encouraged fans to mark their calendars, saying she was looking forward to audiences experiencing the project.

“GOD WITH US is such a beautiful body of work and, ultimately, a reflection of EMMANUEL GOD WITH US,” she said.

The singer ended her message by giving glory to God and describing the upcoming film as something special.
