The timing is wrong: Pastor T Mwangi weighs in on Ruto’s Vision 2060
By Valerian Khakayi, August 13, 2026Vocal preacher Antony Kahura Mwangi, widely known as Pastor T, has welcomed President William Ruto’s push to initiate a conversation on Kenya’s long-term national vision, while acknowledging concerns that the timing of the initiative may be inappropriate.
Speaking during an interview with a local station on Wednesday night, August 12, 2026, Mwangi said he agreed with the Archbishop’s assessment that the timing was wrong but congratulated Ruto for starting a conversation that, in his view, Kenya cannot afford to ignore.
“I want to begin by accepting what the Archbishop has said: the timing is wrong, but I want to congratulate the president for beginning a conversation of a national vision because we cannot ignore everything,”Mwangi said.
The pastor also commended the involvement of young people in the national conversation, saying they should play a central role in shaping and eventually implementing the country’s long-term vision.
“I also want to congratulate him because of the fact that we had political class. I saw very many young people, and these are the people who are supposed to carry that conversation, and they are the ones who should ultimately carry this vision forward,” he added.
Mwangi on youth’s voice
Mwangi said Kenya’s youth could either become a major asset or a source of challenges depending on how they are engaged and understood.
“The youth can be an asset when well utilised, but they can also become trouble when not understood,” he said.
According to Mwangi, many young Kenyans are optimistic about the country’s potential and believe Kenya can become a leading nation if given the right leadership and direction.
“Many young people believe this nation has what it takes to be a top nation. These young people are very analytical; they are asking the hard questions, but they believe we need a new Kenya and we need a Kenya that is better than where we are,” Mwangi explained.
He added that young people were willing to contribute to building a better Kenya if they found leadership capable of giving them the right direction.
“They are willing to build that nation if they find the right leadership and direction,” he added.
