Tell your story! Lilian Ng’ang’a explains why parents must tell own stories to their children

By , June 8, 2026

Former Machakos County First Lady and author Lilian Ng’ang’a has encouraged parents to take control of their own narratives and ensure their children grow up knowing the truth about their lives directly from them.

In a statement shared via her Instagram page on Sunday, June 8, 2026, Lilian reflected on the responsibility that comes with parenthood, noting that raising a child is not just about providing food, shelter, and education, but also about passing down one’s personal story.

According to her, parents should not leave room for outsiders to shape how their children perceive them in the future.

“Having a child means you MUST correct any wrong assumptions so they grow up to read your side of the story – in your own words. DO NOT let strangers curve your story,” Lilian Ng’ang’a stated.

This comes months after she said that children should not be taken to school before they can handle basic personal needs on their own, especially using the bathroom.

In a statement shared via her Instagram account on March 18, 2026, the former Machakos County First Lady stressed that parenting responsibilities should not be pushed onto teachers.

She pointed out that some children are enrolled in school too early, leaving teachers to take on roles that go beyond teaching. According to her, classrooms are turning into spaces where educators are forced to manage tasks that should have already been handled at home.

“Children should not start school before they can use the bathroom on their own. Teachers have no business potty training kids. Let’s parent. Let the teachers teach,” she said.
