South Sudan is my second home: DJ Shiti reveals ahead of his upcoming Juba visit

Kenyan comedian and actor DJ Shiti has opened up about his family roots and his connection to South Sudan, sharing a personal message that highlighted identity, ancestry and belonging.
The entertainer made the remarks through his Instagram story on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, where he spoke about his background and how it ties him to the neighbouring country. In his post, DJ Shiti revealed that his mother is Luo, adding that this heritage strengthens his connection to South Sudan.
“My mom is a Luo, so South Sudan is my second home,” he wrote.
His message centred more on personal reflection than his usual entertainment content, giving fans a glimpse into his family history and how he views his cultural identity.
DJ Shiti also confirmed that he is planning a trip to Juba next month, a visit he appeared to be looking forward to. His words carried a sense of anticipation as he expressed excitement about the journey. “See you, Juba, next month,” he stated.

The comedian further shared that he is eager to experience the country more closely, suggesting that the trip goes beyond a routine visit and is more of a personal connection to his roots.
One of the key highlights of his message was his mention of the River Nile, which he described as a place he is particularly eager to see. He linked the river to his sense of ancestry and origin. “I can’t wait to see the Great River Nile,” he said.
DJ Shiti added that the Nile holds a symbolic meaning for him, associating it with his family history and cultural background.
“The Great River Nile, where my ancestors came from,” Shiti stated.

He rounded off his message by naming several communities in South Sudan, including the Dinka, Shilluk and Nuer, further emphasising the cultural connection he feels toward the region.
Although brief, the post painted a picture of someone reflecting on identity and looking forward to reconnecting with a place he considers part of his heritage. His message repeatedly reinforced that sense of belonging, with the statement: “South Sudan is my second home.”
As he prepares for his planned trip to Juba next month, DJ Shiti’s remarks highlight a personal side of the comedian that goes beyond his usual comedy work, focusing instead on family roots and cultural connection.
