Size 8 explains her choice to marry DJ Mo despite his financial struggles
By William Muthama, July 4, 2026Gospel singer and pastor Size 8 has opened up about her early marriage to DJ Mo, revealing that financial limitations at the time did not stop her from proceeding with the union.
Speaking during an emotional interview released on Saturday, July 4, 2026, she reflected on how her mother’s advice shaped her decision.
Size 8 revealed that DJ Mo did not have a lot of money when they were making key decisions about marriage, including dowry arrangements, noting that his career was still growing at the time.
She explained that despite the financial situation, her mother took a firm position on the matter, insisting on acceptance of what was presented.
“Whatever he brought, my mum was like… we shall accept it,” she said, adding that her mother made it clear he was the man she wanted for her daughter.
Mother’s stand
According to Size 8, her mother believed character and intention mattered more than wealth, especially in the early stages of marriage.
She recalled her mother telling her not to worry about his financial status at the time, insisting that he would eventually grow and become stable.

“Don’t worry, he doesn’t have a lot of money now, but he will become,” she said, quoting her mother.
Building together
Her mother also encouraged her to focus on building a life together rather than choosing someone already established.
She warned that marrying someone already “made” could change how families perceive the relationship, suggesting that such unions are often misunderstood.
“I don’t want you to marry someone who already has a family to make… you are coming as an accessory,” she said, reflecting her mother’s view.

Size 8 said her mother believed marriage should be about contribution and growth, where both partners build each other over time.
She added that her mother believed respect in marriage comes from shared effort, not financial status at the beginning.
According to her, the experience taught her that long-term relationships are shaped by patience, character and the journey of building together.
