Shes Kemunto links her experience to Polygamist series, says it changed her view on women’s struggles
By Paulette Mboga, June 16, 2026She’s Kemunto has linked her personal experience to the trending Netflix series “Polygamist”, saying it has changed how she views women’s struggles in such relationships.
The series is currently trending on Netflix, and many viewers are discussing it widely. Kemunto said watching it brought back memories of her own past experiences and made her reflect deeply on what women go through in similar situations.
“I really wanted to pity the women from the series ‘polygamist’, but oops, I then remembered I was once a JOYCE and the only difference is I was no step moma, but PH changes were crazy,” She’s Kemunto said on Wednesday, June 16, 2026.

She explained that her reaction to the series was emotional because it reminded her of her own journey. According to her, the experiences she went through made her understand the struggles shown in the series differently. She said she could no longer view the story as just entertainment because it felt personal.
“Lesson: you can only advise a person, but you can’t force them out of where they are not ready to let go,” She’s Kemunto said.
Understanding boundaries and personal peace
Kemunto used the moment to speak about personal boundaries and emotional well-being. She explained that people should protect their peace and avoid staying in situations that affect them negatively. According to her, boundaries are meant to offer safety and not to satisfy other people’s desires at your own expense.
“Protect your peace, your boundaries are there to keep you safe, not to accommodate someone else’s desires at your expense,” She’s Kemunto said.

She also encouraged people to choose themselves repeatedly in life, even when it is difficult. Kemunto said that learning to prioritise oneself is often a process that comes through experience and not just advice. She added that many people only understand this after going through challenges.
“I always preach the words ‘choose yourself over and over again and again, but guess what? It has to happen for you to learn,” She’s Kemunto said.
She further questioned whether real-life polygamy relationships are similar to what is shown in the trending series or if there are better versions of it. Her reflection showed curiosity about how such relationships function beyond what is seen on screen.
“My question is, those in polygamous marriages, is it like this, or is there a better version of it?” She’s Kemunto said.
The series “Polygamist” continues to attract attention on Netflix as viewers engage with its storyline and themes. Kemunto’s reflection adds to the ongoing conversation about relationships and personal experiences.
