Kenyan dancer-turned-Arbantone singer Sean MMG has opened up about the strategy behind creating music that connects with audiences, revealing how social media, dance trends, and teamwork have become essential parts of a successful music career.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday, June 14, 2026, the singer explained that releasing a song is only the beginning of the process. According to him, artists must think beyond recording and focus on how listeners will discover and engage with the music.

Role of dance in music promotion

Sean noted that dance has become one of the most effective ways of pushing a song to a wider audience. He believes a catchy dance challenge can help a track gain traction across social media platforms and reach people who may not have heard it before.

He explained that music and dance now go hand in hand, making it important for artists to identify movements that can resonate with fans. “When you release a song, you start to wonder what to do to market it better. The first thing is dancing. You have to look for a good dance that would go viral because music and dance are combined,” he said.

Why DJs still matter

Beyond social media trends, Sean said DJs continue to play a key role in determining whether a song reaches large audiences. He revealed that he often waits to hear DJs play his music, particularly in crowded venues where people can react to it in real time.

At the same time, he emphasised the importance of having a clear vision as an artist from the moment a song is created. “When I’m planning already or writing the song, I have the vision in my head of how the results will come out.”

Music is a team effort

While many people focus on the artist alone, Sean believes success in music requires collaboration. He compared the industry to any other business, saying artists need people with different skills around them.

According to him, a strong team can include dancers, producers, DJs, and individuals who understand the business side of music. “One can’t do this alone. You need a whole team because music is just like any other business,” he said.

He added that he often involves dancers while writing songs so they can connect with the sound and help shape the final product.

Building a career beyond music

Sean also reflected on his journey before becoming a recognised musician. He recalled starting out as a dancer and influencer, a period that helped him secure opportunities outside music.

His breakthrough in dance came when he joined Dance 98, a renowned academy founded by dancer Tileh Pacbro. As part of the Pacbro Squad, Sean trained rigorously as a performer, choreographer, and mentor, appearing in tutorials like “How to ODI DANCE Like a Pro” and participating in numerous challenges.

His time at Dance 98 also opened doors to feature in music videos for artists such as Lil Maina (“Kishash”), Cartoon Comedian (“Kamkora”), and Exray (“Sijanona”).

He revealed that one of his earliest major achievements was landing a brand partnership with Fanta, which became an important stepping stone in his career. The singer further noted that his motivation has always been to create opportunities not only for himself but also for his family.

“I don’t use my parents’ money. In fact, they use my money because I believe I can be the impact and the change in myself, and also for my family,” he stated. As social media continues to shape the entertainment industry, Sean MMG believes artists who combine creativity, planning, and teamwork stand a better chance of turning their music into lasting success.
