Saumu Mbuvi responds to Eric Omondi over claims politicians did not support Natalie Githinji
By Paulette Mboga, September 28, 2026Saumu Mbuvi, the daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has responded to Eric Omondi’s claims that politicians did not support Natalie Githinji ahead of her Endometriosis Warriors event, saying not all aspirants failed to offer support.
Saumu Mbuvi, who is seeking to become the next Nairobi County Woman Representative, said some aspirants had tried to support Natalie Githinji in their own capacity but chose not to seek credit for their efforts.
She made the remarks after Omondi explained why politicians were not supposed to attend the event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
“Don’t say all aspirants kuna wenye Kama sisi tulijaribu in our own capacity, and didn’t want credit for it,” Mbuvi said on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Omondi had questioned nominated Senator Karen Nyamu’s attendance at the event, saying organisers had agreed that politicians would not attend so that the focus could remain on Githinji and endometriosis awareness.
Nyamu attended the event and took to the stage to speak about endometriosis, but sections of the crowd interrupted her with “Wantam” chants. She later said she had expected the reaction because of Omondi’s involvement in the event and his public criticism of the government.

Mbuvi said the event was not connected to politics, explaining that the main goal was to recognise people affected by endometriosis and support the fight against the condition. She said political considerations were not part of the gathering’s purpose.
“The Goal was one, to recognise endometriosis warriors and the fight against it,” Mbuvi said.
Her response came after Omondi said the decision to keep politicians away from the event was based on two reasons. He explained that, according to the brief, politicians were not allowed to attend the event.
“The brief was very simple: no politicians allowed because of two reasons,” Omondi said.
Omondi also claimed that politicians had not supported Githinji financially despite the costs linked to her treatment and the event. He said no women representatives or aspirants in Nairobi had contacted them to offer support.
“Reason number one, hakuna politician hatuupigia simu hata sai Natalie ako na deni hajamaliza kulipa KICC na sound; there is no single women rep ama aspirant at least in Nairobi hatukupigia. None of them supported Natalie,” Omondi said.
Mbuvi, however, maintained that some aspirants had made attempts to support Githinji without seeking recognition for what they had done. She also made it clear that she did not view politics as part of the event’s purpose.
