Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has opened up about what he describes as a heartbreaking personal experience after a trip to Meru ended in disappointment.

In an interview on Saturday, May 30, 2026, Salasya explained that he had been communicating with his then-girlfriend based in Meru for some time, during which they exchanged frequent conversations and, according to him, small financial support on a daily basis.

“Kwa siku nilikua namtumia mia mbili mia tano so tulikua tunaongea sana,” he noted.

He said the two had built regular communication, with him sending her between Ksh 200 and Ksh 500 on different occasions as they stayed in contact.

Salasya further stated that the woman later invited him to visit her in Meru. Trusting the arrangement, he decided to travel from Mumias to Meru with the intention of finally meeting her in person.

“Akaniambia nimtembelee, nikamua kutoka Mumias hadi Meru,” he said.

Journey to Meru and unexpected request

However, upon arrival, he claims the situation changed. He said the woman asked him to send her money for gas, saying it had run out and she needed it in order to meet him in town.

“Akaniambia nimjazie gas juu ilikua imeisha ndio anikujie town ya Meru,” he explained.

He added that he proceeded to send the money, which he also considered part of his travel or return fare arrangements. Shortly after sending the money, Salasya said communication between them abruptly stopped.

“After nimeshafika nikaamua kumtumia, na ilikua part ya fare ya kurudi,” he said.

According to him, the woman switched off her phone, making it impossible for him to reach her despite repeated attempts.

He said he was left stranded in Meru with no contact and no clear direction, forcing him to look for alternative accommodation in town as he tried to figure out his next steps.

Salasya described the experience as emotionally painful, noting that he had invested both time and resources in what he believed was a genuine connection.

The legislator said the incident taught him important lessons about trust, communication, and relationships formed online, warning that not all digital connections translate into real-life trust.
