Salasya breaks silence on Harriet Njenga’s resignation, apologises and offers improved contract
By Katemarthason Okudo, July 12, 2026Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has publicly appealed to his longtime social media manager, Harriet Njenga, to reconsider her resignation, praising her contribution to his media team and offering her a revised employment package.
In a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Salasya said he was surprised to learn about Njenga’s resignation through social media, adding that she had played a key role in growing his digital platforms over the past three years.
He described her as an important member of the team whose work had helped strengthen his online presence across several social media platforms.
“I was surprised to see your post on social media about your resignation, Harriet Njenga. Over the past three years, you have been an integral part of my media team, and your contribution has been exceptional, particularly within the demanding political environment in which we operate,” he wrote.

Salasya apologises over interview remarks
The MP also addressed remarks made during a live radio interview, where questions were raised about claims that he and Njenga were in a relationship.
Salasya apologised for the incident, saying the question should never have been asked and acknowledging that it may have caused discomfort.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise for the remarks made by Tony Mwirigi during the live radio interview. The question regarding our alleged personal relationship was inappropriate and should not have been raised,” he said.
He added that although he chose not to react publicly at the time, he understood how the exchange may have affected her.
“Please accept my sincere apology. I value your professionalism, commitment, and the significant role you continue to play within my team,” he added.
Offers revised contract
In a bid to keep her on the team, Salasya revealed that he had prepared a new employment contract with a salary increment and improved allowances.
He invited Njenga to report to the office on Tuesday morning to discuss the offer.

“My Personal Assistant, Elvis, has prepared a revised employment contract reflecting a salary increment together with improved allowances in recognition of your contribution and dedication,” he wrote.
Salasya further noted that the team had spent years travelling across the country while building his communication strategy and said he hoped they would continue working together.
Resignation followed emotional message
His statement came a day after Njenga announced that she had resigned as Salasya’s social media manager and member of the Salasya TV team.
In a resignation letter shared on Saturday, July 11, 2026, she confirmed that she was leaving the position with immediate effect. She said she had joined the team on December 20, 2024, and thanked Salasya for giving her the opportunity to work with him.

Before stepping down, Njenga had also spoken about comments made during a previous interview, where Salasya denied knowing her after being asked about rumours linking them romantically.
According to Njenga, what hurt her most was not the denial of the relationship rumours but the impression that he did not know her despite the time they had worked together.
She added that the incident left her feeling unappreciated, saying she even feared that if something happened to her, Salasya might not acknowledge that she had been part of his team.
