Rich Mavoko responds to claims Zuchu influenced Wasafi artists’ exits
By William Muthama, August 7, 2026Tanzanian singer Rich Mavoko has responded to claims that Zuchu influenced the departure of some artistes from Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB), saying he never witnessed her interfering with other artistes during his time at the label.
Zuchu, Diamond Platnumz’s former partner, has been mentioned in claims surrounding the departure of several artistes from the record label.
Mavoko, who was previously signed to WCB, addressed the claims during an interview on Friday, August 7, 2026, while discussing his experience at the label and what he witnessed before his departure.
Zuchu’s role
Mavoko said Zuchu was not yet a major artiste at Wasafi during the period he was signed to the label.
“Wakati nilikuwa uko, Zuchu hakuwa, hakuwa ametoka. Wala hakuwa msanii ambao unaona kama ni main,” he said.
He explained that he never saw Zuchu interfere in conversations or decisions involving other artistes during his time at WCB.
“Mimi sijawahi kuona eti yeye ame… ameingia katikati ya maongezi ya msanii huyo hafai,” Mavoko said.
He noted that Zuchu was still among the artistes who had not established themselves as major names at the label when he was there.
Different experiences
Mavoko said he could only speak about his own experience and could not confirm what happened after he left Wasafi.
“Sasa labda hao waliobaki kipindi yeye ametoka siwezi kujua,” he said.
The singer acknowledged that artistes who remained at the label after Zuchu became established could have had different experiences.
He therefore declined to directly link her to the departures of artistes who left Wasafi after his own exit.
Wasafi has seen several artistes leave the label over the years, with former members going on to pursue independent music careers.
Mavoko was among the artistes, including Mbosso, Harmonise, and Lavalava, who previously worked under the label before leaving to continue his career independently.
He said his comments were based on what he personally witnessed while at WCB and should not be taken as an account of what happened after his departure.
