‘Pure lie’ – Mosiria rubbishes Babu Owino’s claim his party registered 660k members in 6 days
By Paulette Mboga, September 26, 2026Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has challenged Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to provide proof after the politician claimed that The Mwananchi Party (TMP) had registered 660,008 members in just six days.
Mosiria disputed the figure, saying the party had only registered around 46,000 members.
Babu Owino made the claim while celebrating what he described as a record TMP registration figure. He said the number showed the level of trust, confidence and support Kenyans were placing in the party.
“TMP IS BREAKING PARTY REGISTRATION RECORDS. 🇰🇪” Babu Owino said on Friday, September 25, 2026.
He then stated that the party had reached more than 660,000 registered members within six days. Babu Owino thanked Kenyans for supporting the party and ended his message with a blessing.
“In just 6 days, the Mwananchi Party has registered a total of 660,008 members,” Babu Owino said.
Mosiria disputes membership figures
Mosiria rejected the figure shared by Babu Owino, describing the 660,008 membership claim as untrue. He said the number of registered members was much lower based on the figures he had seen.
“Pure lie. By today at 2 PM, they had around 46K registered members, not 660K,” Mosiria said.
Mosiria then called on Babu Owino to make the registration figures public so that the numbers could be checked. He challenged him to go live on Facebook and TikTok while opening the portal for the figures to be seen.
“If I am lying, let him go live on Facebook and TikTok and open the portal so that we can all see the actual data from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP),” Mosiria said.
The dispute has therefore centred on the number of members registered by The Mwananchi Party since the registration exercise began. Babu Owino put the figure at 660,008 members after six days, while Mosiria gave a different figure of around 46,000 members.
Mosiria also urged Babu Owino to be truthful to Kenyans as he questioned the membership figure that had been shared. He directly addressed Babu Owino while challenging the claim and called for the registration data to be made available for verification.
“Be truthful to Kenyans, my good friend PR Za university acha!” Mosiria said.
