Peter Salasya shows off his Abu Dhabi Airbnb costing Ksh6,500 as he compares it with Nairobi
By Steve Ireri, September 19, 2026Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has revealed how much he paid for his Airbnb in Abu Dhabi while comparing accommodation costs in the United Arab Emirates with what he described as expensive stays in Nairobi.
Speaking in a TikTok video on Friday, September 18, 2026, Salasya gave his followers a glimpse of the accommodation where he was staying during his visit to Abu Dhabi and revealed that he travelled there as part of an overseas trip focused on looking for investors.
In the video, Salasya showed off the Airbnb where he was staying, describing it as a decent and well-equipped place located close to Abu Dhabi’s central business district.
“So guys, here is where I am sleeping here in Abu Dhabi, and this place is just near the central business district of Abu Dhabi,” Salasya said.
The MP then disclosed the amount he had paid for the accommodation, saying the price was considerably lower than what he believed a standard Airbnb would cost in Nairobi.
“And it is not expensive, by the way, like Nairobi. Nairobi is very expensive. For a standard Airbnb in Nairobi, you will be told Ksh10,000 in Nairobi. But here I paid only Ksh6,500,” he said.
Salasya proceeded to give his followers a closer look at some of the features of the accommodation, pointing out that it had a bathroom, balcony and views of the Abu Dhabi skyline.
“And you see, it has everything: a washroom, and the balcony is there and has a view of CBD. It is a very decent place and not as expensive as Nairobi,” he said.
The Mumias East MP also pointed towards another side of the property, where he said guests could enjoy a view of the sea.
“On the other side we have a view of the sea. You know Abu Dhabi has islands, and every area has an island. This city is surrounded by water bodies,” Salasya said.
He appeared impressed by the combination of the accommodation’s location, facilities and price, describing it as both decent and affordable.
“It is very decent but very affordable,” he added.
Salasya’s comments also turned into an observation about travel and the cost of living, with the MP suggesting that Kenyans could consider visiting other countries to experience how different cities operate.
“So I have realised when you are tired of living in Kenya, just take an economy flight and come here and watch things a bit and go back,” he said.
The legislator, however, clarified that his visit was not purely for leisure, saying he and his team were in Abu Dhabi in search of investors.
“But here we have come to look for investors,” he said.
Salasya has been using his overseas trip to highlight opportunities he believes could help transform his constituency, particularly through investment, technology and agriculture.
Earlier during the trip, the MP also shared updates about his plans for Mumias East, including efforts to attract investors and create new opportunities for residents.
His latest comments about Airbnb prices therefore came against the backdrop of a wider message about what he believes Kenya can learn from other countries.
Salasya said he believed Nairobi and Abu Dhabi could both benefit if the right systems were put in place, urging Kenyans to change their mindset and recognise the potential of the country.
“I think Nairobi and here, if we can set things right, we will go far. We should not underestimate ourselves as Kenya. We just need to set the mentality,” he said.
