Salvation Healing Ministry founder Pastor Victor Kanyari has recalled how he lost Ksh400,000 after a Nairobi Gen Z introduced him to sports betting.

Speaking during his Sunday, June 14, 2026, Kanyari narrated how the young man convinced him that he was skilled in betting and could help generate huge returns within a short time, even suggesting they could make up to KSh10 million in a day.

According to the pastor, the conversation began when he asked the young man whether he understood sports betting, to which he confidently responded that he was a “pro” in the trade.

“So I asked that young man if he knew how to bet, and he said he knew. He even said he is a pro and that he can even bet in a way that we could make Ksh10 million each in a day. I was very interested after he told me that,” Kanyari recalled.

Kanyari said he was immediately intrigued by the claims and decided to try it out, starting with an initial stake of Ksh50,000, which he sent instantly.

He revealed that the first bet was successful, yielding Ksh200,000, something that initially made him believe that betting was genuine and not a scam as he had previously thought.

“I asked him how much we should start with on the first round, and he said Ksh50,000, so I sent it instantly. He placed the bet, and we won Ksh200,000,” he said.

Encouraged by the win, Kanyari said they proceeded to place another bet using Ksh200,000, but this time they lost the money.

He noted that the young man reassured him that the loss was due to a mistake, claiming he had pressed the wrong option during the bet, which led to the unsuccessful outcome.

Trusting the explanation, Kanyari said he agreed to place another bet of Ksh200,000, with the young man promising to be more careful and ensure a big win.

“I started questioning myself and thought maybe betting is real and not a scam like I had been thinking. So we placed another bet with Ksh200,000, but that round we did not win. The man told me not to worry because he had made a mistake and pressed the wrong option, which is why we lost,” Kanyari added.

However, that round also ended in a loss, prompting him to ask the young man to leave his home immediately.

Kanyari recounted that he had been fully hopeful during the process, even sitting nearby as the young man placed the bets while he cooked ugali for him so he could concentrate properly.

“So he told me we should place another Ksh200,000 and promised that this time he would be careful and we would win big. I gave him the money. But again, we did not win, and I told him to leave my place immediately. I was very hopeful at the time. While he was betting, I was just sitting there cooking ugali for him so he could concentrate on betting,” Kanyari recalled.
