Looking back, the entertainer said he never doubted that he would one day become one of the country’s leading creatives.

He explained that his journey started long before he officially joined the industry. “I’ve been in the industry professionally. I’m 33, and I started when I was 18, so I have 15 years of professional experience. But even before that, in high school, I was already an entertainer,” Tokodi said.

His remarks offered a glimpse into the dedication that has defined his career across music, acting and directing.

Poverty and passion became his biggest motivation

While many people assume success in entertainment is driven by fame, Tokodi said his biggest motivation came from something much deeper. According to him, financial struggles played a significant role in pushing him to work harder.

“One of my biggest motivations that led me to make music and create hits is poverty and also passion and finding something that provides for you while doing something you genuinely love,” he explained.

He added that entertainment has never felt like a burden. “For me, it doesn’t feel like work. It feels like coming in every day and having a good time,” he said.

Tokodi also revealed that he always believed he would become one of the best musicians in the country. “When I look back, I always knew I was going to become one of the best musicians in the country. A musician, an actor and a director,” he added.

Why consistency matters in the creative industry

The actor also spoke about the importance of responsibility and consistency.

He explained that waking up every day with a sense of purpose has helped him remain focused throughout his career. “My greatest motivation is waking myself up every single day because I know I hold many people’s lives in my hands. I know I have many responsibilities, and to whom much is given, much is expected,” Tokodi said.

He also encouraged upcoming creatives to find financial stability instead of depending entirely on entertainment. According to him, creative skills can open doors beyond music and acting.

His advice to upcoming artists

Tokodi urged young artists to stop waiting for opportunities to come to them and instead create their own platforms.

He pointed out that technology has made it easier for musicians to record songs, create content and reach audiences without relying on major producers. “Be consistent, be very, very consistent in everything that you do,” he advised.

He also encouraged artists to be more strategic when releasing music. According to Tokodi, timing can influence how well a project performs. “Before you release a song, ask yourself what month it is. Is it the month of love? What’s happening in the country? Just be strategic about it,” he said.

His message highlighted an important lesson for creatives: talent may open the door, but consistency and planning are what keep a career moving forward.
