Pascal Tokodi hits back at critics, says he will always stand up for fellow actors

The latest exchange comes after Tokodi publicly criticised Sagini over comments in which the reviewer said he was tired of seeing the same actors cast in Kenyan productions.
Tokodi responds to critics
The discussion resurfaced after one Instagram user suggested that Sagini had not insulted anyone and accused Tokodi of overreacting. “Kwani alikutukana? Hakuna mahali alitumia vulgar language. You are playing victim for nothing,” the social media user commented.
Tokodi responded by explaining that his reaction was not about playing the victim but about defending his profession and the people who work in it. “I’m not like other actors who don’t stand up for their fellow actors. He interfered with our work. Again, I’m not against criticism, but please come correct. And please go watch his reviews before preaching to me about being vulgar,” Tokodi replied.
Backlash started after viral review
The latest response follows an online debate sparked by film commentator Sagini Megane, who recently criticised what he described as the repeated casting of the same actors in Kenyan films.
In the viral review, Sagini said he was tired of seeing familiar faces on screen and mentioned several actors, including Tokodi, arguing that audiences should support productions based on quality rather than loyalty.
Tokodi later responded, defending not only himself but the wider acting community, saying critics should understand the effort that goes into producing films before dismissing the work of actors.
Says criticism should be constructive
While making it clear that he has no problem with criticism, Tokodi maintained that it should be fair and respectful.
The actor explained that he welcomes honest opinions about films but believes there is a difference between reviewing creative work and attacking the people behind it. “I’m not against criticism, but please come correct,” Tokodi reiterated.

Tokodi has consistently encouraged Kenyans to support the local film industry, saying growth comes through both constructive feedback and appreciation for the people working behind the scenes.
