Nuru Okanga predicts Sakaja will not be re-elected as Nairobi governor in 2027

Social media personality and late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s die-hard fan Nuru Okanga has predicted that Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will not be re-elected in the 2027 General Election.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Okanga declared Sakaja a wantam governor while suggesting that the incumbent would serve only one term.

“Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja. WANTAM Governor,” Okanga wrote.

Okanga, who is seeking to become the incoming MCA for Kholera ward in 2027, also urged those questioning which political party he would use to contest for office to wait for an announcement.

“Those asking Nuru Okanga, which party are you vying with? Relax, soon and very soon I will announce it. WANTAM,” he wrote.

At the same time, Okanga turned his attention to President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, drawing a connection between Gachagua’s earlier remarks and the launch of a new political party associated with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

So tuseme Gachagua ni prophet?” Okanga asked.

He recalled claims Gachagua made several months earlier that Ruto was planning to launch another wheelbarrow party in Murang’a.

“Some five months ago, he said that Ruto was planning to launch another wheelbarrow party in Murang’a. Ndindi Nyoro launched his yesterday,” Okanga wrote.

Okanga, however, stopped short of directly declaring that Nyoro’s new political vehicle was being backed by Ruto.

“I do not want to conclude that it is Ruto’s new wheelbarrow, but time will tell. WANTAM,” he added.

Gachagua’s convertible

Elsewhere, the political commentator expressed hope that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will allow him to use the viral Mercedes-Benz convertible he rode in during the Tuko Kadi initiative to campaign for an MCA seat in his constituency.

In a video shared on his TikTok page on Saturday, March 28, 2026, Okanga stated that he intends to bring the same vehicle to Kholera Ward for his campaign, noting that it will serve as a centrepiece in attracting attention and signalling his dedication.

“I will be vying for MCA in Kholera Ward, and these are the kind of cars I will bring to that ward for my campaign. And let no one deceive you; Orera Ward things will be on fire. These are the type of cars I will bring there,” Okanga said.

Okanga explained that he will be accompanied by a bodyguard at the front and two additional people at the back while campaigning across the constituency.

He stressed that he will approach the MCA race with energy and zeal, showing commitment to both his supporters and the DCP Party.

“This Mercedes convertible belongs to Rigathi Gachagua, the DCP Party leader, and he has revealed that this Mercedes, when I go to Western to campaign, is the one that will be ferrying me. I will be seated with a bodyguard here at the front and two more people at the back,” he said.

He highlighted his admiration for Gachagua, describing him as a leader whose actions and visibility, including the Mercedes ride, inspire his political strategy.

Okanga also indicated that the vehicle’s public recognition will help him engage voters more effectively while building momentum for his campaign.

Furthermore, he addressed critics who have questioned his support for Gachagua, insisting that his loyalty is unwavering and that his campaign strategy, including the use of the convertible, is intended to energise constituents rather than provoke controversy.

“I will come for that seat with zeal. So much, and I support Rigathi Gachagua, the DCP Party leader. And for all those who are feeling bad that I have chosen to support Gachagua, mind your business,” Nuru added.
