Nuru Okanga pens sweet message after Kenyans defy warnings to fill Jacaranda Grounds for Sifuna, Babu
By Steve Ireri, September 14, 2026Political commentator and social media personality Nuru Okanga has sent a message to Kenyans following the massive turnout at the Linda Mwananchi rally held at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi.
Okanga shared the message on Monday, September 14, 2026, a day after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino led the political gathering that drew thousands of supporters to the Eastlands venue.
He celebrated the rally and drew attention to the political influence of Raila Odinga, Babu Owino and Sifuna, whose names featured prominently in his message.
Okanga presented Babu as the political figure coming after Raila Odinga in the opposition movement, using a wordplay-based slogan to suggest that Babu’s absence would leave supporters in difficulty.
He then shifted his focus to Sifuna, associating himself with the senator and the political cause represented by the Nairobi lawmaker.
“Tuliwaambia, baada ya Baba ni Babu, na bila Babu ni tabu. Alafu tunamalizia kwa kusema, sisi ni Sifuna,” he wrote.
Okanga also thanked the people of Jacaranda for their massive presence at the rally before ending his message with an emphatic political sign-off.
“Asanteni sana, Jacaranda. ❤️WANTAM!” he wrote.
Highly charged rally
The post came after a highly charged political rally in Nairobi that unfolded despite prior warnings from security agencies.
Despite the warnings, Sifuna’s convoy made its way into the CBD, where the Nairobi senator addressed traders at Marikiti Market and sought their support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The day began with a church service at All Saints Cathedral before supporters joined a procession through Jogoo Road as the political mobilisation gathered momentum.
Large crowds followed the procession into the city, with the movement eventually making its way to Jacaranda Grounds for the main rally.
By the time the political leaders arrived, the venue was already packed with supporters, turning the gathering into a major display of political mobilisation in Nairobi.
Babu Owino received particularly strong backing from supporters at the rally, with the crowd chanting in support of his bid to become Nairobi governor in the 2027 elections.
Sifuna was also presented as a major political force, with his supporters projecting him as a potential presidential contender in the next General Election.
Siaya Governor James Orengo and politician Millicent Omanga were among the prominent figures who joined the two leaders at the gathering, adding further political weight to the event.
The leaders used the rally to mount criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, particularly over governance, democracy and the rising cost of living, while calling on Kenyans to protect their constitutional freedoms.
The large turnout came against a backdrop of increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures seeking to consolidate support across different parts of the country.
