Gospel singer Justina Syokau has opened up about her decision to stop bleaching her skin, revealing that she wanted to restore her natural complexion and begin a skin rejuvenation journey.

In a candid social media post, shared on Thursday, July 23, 2026, the singer addressed followers who had been commenting on her appearance, with some claiming she looked older after ditching skin-lightening products.

According to Syokau, she deliberately stopped using mkorogo three months ago to allow her skin to return to its original state before undergoing cosmetic skin treatments.

“I stopped using mkorogo for my skin to go back to its original state; kuna watu wengi walikuwa wakiniambia, ‘Justina, umezeeka sana’,” Syokau said.

The singer explained that her decision was not because the skin-lightening products had harmed her, but because she wanted to strengthen her skin ahead of her next beauty procedure.

She added that once her natural skin returned and became stronger, she was finally able to proceed with the treatment she had planned for her face.

Vile ngozi yangu imerudi na iko strong kabisa, naweza fanya chenye nilikuwa nataka kufanyia uso wangu, lakini singeweza kuenda kutengenezwa kama nimepaka mkorogo kwa sababu ngozi ilikuwa iko light,” Syokau said.

Syokau’s skin struggle

Syokau further revealed that she had been struggling with acne and wanted to address the condition before it became worse.

Sahizi ngozi yangu imekuwa ngumu, pia nilikuwa na acne sana niaona ni vizuri nitengenezwa zisije zikarudi tena,” she added.

Despite walking away from skin-bleaching products, the singer maintained that mkorogo did not damage her skin, insisting that quitting was a personal choice aimed at achieving her desired look.

Mkorogo haikunidhuri nilifanya tu kuwacha,” she stated.

Natural skin journey

The gospel musician also disclosed that she has now embarked on what she described as a natural skin glow-up journey.

She further disclosed that she recently underwent a microneedling procedure, a cosmetic treatment commonly used to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of acne scars.

According to Syokau, the treatment is intended to boost collagen production, leaving her skin healthier and more youthful.

“Now it’s 3 months since I started the GLO-up journey of natural skin. For my skin to get collagen and be healthy and younger, I have done microneedling. I will post soon. Muone vile Iko by 2 weeks; I will be looking great,” she shared.

Responding to critics who claimed she now looks older and has lost weight, the singer dismissed the remarks, saying she is happy with her appearance and has no regrets about embracing her natural skin.

Kwa wale wanasema niko mzee, nimepungua na imeenda na kala ya ngozi, mimi sijazeeka kwangu niko tu sawa na ninashukuru Mungu nilichukua hii hatua ya kuglow up
