Muhoozi reveals plan to build giant Jesus Christ statue in Kampala
By Katemarthason Okudo, August 26, 2026Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has revealed plans to build what he says could be the biggest statue of Jesus Christ in Africa. Muhoozi shared the idea on his X page on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, saying he was considering putting the statue on one of the hills in Kampala.
The proposed structure would be a major religious landmark if the plan moves forward, although Muhoozi has not given details on its size, location, cost, or when construction could begin.
“I’m thinking of building the biggest statue of Jesus Christ in Africa on top of one of the hills in Kampala,” Muhoozi said.
His statement comes at a time when his family has also been celebrating a major milestone in Christian ministry, following the consecration of his younger sister, Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo, as a bishop.
Muhoozi explains why he cannot be a priest
While sharing his thoughts about the planned statue, Muhoozi also spoke about his own relationship with religious service.
He made the remarks while congratulating Patience, who was consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop of Covenant Nations Church in Uganda and beyond on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The consecration took place at Covenant Hill in Maya during celebrations marking 20 years of the ministry. Muhoozi used the occasion to make a light-hearted comment about why he believes becoming a priest would not suit him.
“I can NEVER be a priest. I love the other things of women too much,” he wrote. Despite the joke, Muhoozi was clear about his support for his sister and her new role in the church.

Patience’s consecration marked an important point in her two-decade journey in Christian ministry. Muhoozi described the achievement as well-deserved and said his sister shares several qualities with him.
“I congratulate my baby sister on her well-deserved consecration as a bishop. Patience shares a lot of attributes with me,” he said.
He also prayed for God’s blessings upon Patience and her children while promising to continue supporting her. “May our God, Jesus Christ, bless her and her children. She will always be protected under me,” Muhoozi added.
Patience’s journey in ministry
Patience has been involved in Christian ministry for about 20 years. She founded Covenant Nations Church as a small house fellowship before it grew into a larger ministry. Her consecration was led by Bishop Dr LaDonna Osborn, alongside co-consecrators Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere.
The ceremony brought together members of the Museveni family, government officials and Christian leaders.
As Muhoozi considers his proposed Jesus Christ statue, the idea remains at an early stage, with no further details yet given on how or when the project could be implemented.
