Muhoozi: I’m ready for a DNA test to prove Museveni is my father

By , June 28, 2026

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has sparked fresh online discussions across East Africa following his latest remarks on X.

The controversial military leader addressed critics who have long questioned his true heritage and relationship with his father, President Yoweri Museveni, on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Known for his highly unpredictable social media presence, the army chief challenged those doubting his lineage to an official medical test.

Media shutdown and anger accusations

Muhoozi published the posts on the morning of June 28, 2026, just hours after making headlines for ordering a military shutdown of two independent media houses. Overnight, armed security forces raided and barricaded the Nation Media Group offices in Kampala, forcing both NTV Uganda and Spark TV off the air.

This aggressive move drew heavy criticism from regional observers who pointed to the general’s volatile temperament.

Responding to an online user who tied his aggressive leadership style to his true heritage, Muhoozi revealed that a critic claimed he was “too angry to be Mzee’s son” and must belong to a different ethnic group.

“He demanded a DNA test to prove if Mzee is my father. I am ready for the test,” Muhoozi said.

“Ugandans who accuse me of being a Munyarwanda don’t know our family. Actually, me and late Fred Rwigyema are the calmest people in this family,” he added.

Tracing the official family lineage

While online skeptics debate his personality traits and temperament, official historical documents paint a picture of the family tree.

According to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s autobiography, Sowing the Mustard Seed, as well as Ugandan First Lady Janet Museveni’s memoir, My Life’s Journey, Muhoozi was born on April 24, 1974, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, during a period when his parents were living in political exile.

He is documented as the firstborn son of the couple.

Muhoozi grew up in the middle of Uganda’s complex political struggles, eventually joining the Ugandan military and becoming the country’s highest-ranking officer, serving under his father.
