Mosiria urges women to protect their dignity instead of chasing viral trends

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has urged women to protect their dignity instead of chasing viral trends on social media.

He said society should celebrate women for their character and achievements rather than content that, in his view, lowers their dignity. His remarks referred to the Summer Tides event and the Siaka challenge.

Mosiria said women should think carefully before sharing explicit content online. He explained that what is posted on the internet can remain there for many years and may have consequences in the future.

He urged young women to make decisions that protect their image.

“Our girls, nobody will marry a woman or a lady who exposes explicit photos all over social media. The internet never forgets, so, to our girls, one day it will come to haunt you,” Mosiria said on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

He also expressed concern about the direction society is taking. Mosiria said women should be recognised for their positive qualities and contributions instead of content that does not reflect their values.

Call for positive values

“We are moving in the wrong direction as a society if we are glorifying our women for what we have seen in the Summer Tide events and Siaka Siaka challenges. Our daughters, sisters, and mothers deserve to be celebrated for their character, talents, intelligence, hard work, and positive contributions to society, not for content that undermines their dignity,” Mosiria said.

He added that society has a responsibility to encourage values that help build a better future for young people. According to Mosiria, respect, responsibility and self-worth should remain important in everyday life.

“As a society, we should encourage values that inspire the next generation and promote respect, responsibility, and self-worth,” he said.

Earlier, Mosiria also called for the Summer Tides event in Malindi to be stopped. He raised concerns over videos that were said to have been recorded during the weekend gathering. He said action should be taken if the reports about inappropriate behaviour in public places are confirmed.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, July 5, 2026, Mosiria said the event should be banned if the claims are found to be true. He also urged parents to know where their children are and the activities they take part in during such events.

“Summer Tides should be banned completely in Kenya. How can our young people openly engage in sexual acts in public spaces, and nobody is talking about it?” Mosiria said.
