Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has called on the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to intervene and assist Kenyans stranded in foreign countries after being abandoned by fraudulent recruitment agencies.

In a statement shared on social media on Thursday, June 11,2026, Mosiria expressed concern over the growing number of Kenyans suffering abroad after travelling in search of employment opportunities.

“Honestly, many Kenyans are suffering in foreign countries without jobs, and if no action is taken, we may end up losing innocent people who left home in search of greener pastures,”Mosiria wrote.

The county official urged the government, through the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, to step in and support affected Kenyans facing difficult conditions outside the country.

According to Mosiria, many of those stranded were misled by fake recruitment agencies that promised them jobs abroad but failed to deliver after facilitating their travel.

“I urge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene and assist them during this difficult time. Majority have been dumped there by fake recruitment agencies,” he urged.

Mosiria’s warning

Mosiria’s applea comes months he warned youths against fake agents posing as overseas job brokers.

In a statement on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Mosiria cautioned that many fraudsters are luring desperate youth with promises of well-paying jobs overseas, only to steal their money and abandon them once they leave the country.

He noted that the scams have become increasingly sophisticated, with agents posing as legitimate overseas employment brokers.

“I have received numerous calls from young people who have lost their hard-earned money to these fake agents. Some victims are taken abroad using tourist visas, yet they are falsely told they are being issued work visas. Once they arrive, they are dumped without jobs, legal documents, or any form of support.”

According to Mosiria, many of the affected youth end up stranded in foreign countries, vulnerable to exploitation, arrest, or deportation due to a lack of proper documentation.

Others are forced to rely on well-wishers or struggle to find their way back home after exhausting all their savings.

“Always confirm the legitimacy of an agent before giving out your money. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Mosiria also called on authorities and the public to work together to expose and report individuals involved in such scams, warning that these fraudsters are destroying the future of many promising young Kenyans.

“Together, we must protect our youth. We cannot allow criminals to take advantage of desperation and unemployment to exploit our people.”
