Mosiria recounts how woman rescued from Nairobi streets reunited with sons after 8 years

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has reflected on the remarkable transformation of Martha Njoki, a woman he rescued from the streets of Nairobi before helping her reunite with her children after eight years apart.
In a social media post, shared on Friday, July 24, 2026, Mosiria recalled that Martha had lost hope in life and was living as part of a street family after being abandoned by those around her.
He said many people had written her off and viewed her as beyond help.
According to Mosiria, Martha had also been separated from her two sons for eight years, with the children believing that their mother had died while living on the streets.
“Martha Njoki, the lady I rescued from the streets of Nairobi, was living as part of a street family after losing hope in life. Everyone had abandoned her and saw her as a hopeless person, commonly referred to as a chokoraa. She had also been separated from her children for eight years,” Mosiria recalled.
“I helped her through treatment and later reunited her with her two sons, who had believed that their mother had died on the streets eight years earlier.”
Mosiria on Martha’s recovery journey
Mosiria said he stepped in to help Martha access treatment, marking the beginning of her recovery journey.
He revealed that despite the challenges she faced, including a past suicide attempt, Martha managed to turn her life around after receiving support.
“It is true that Martha once attempted to take her own life, but God spared her and gave her another chance. Today, she is a completely different person and a living testimony that recovery is possible,” he added.
Additionally, he added that one of the most emotional moments in Martha’s journey was reuniting her with her two sons after years of separation.
Martha’s transformation
Mosiria said Martha’s transformation demonstrates the importance of giving people battling addiction an opportunity to rebuild their lives.
He added that Martha has since become an inspiration to others facing addiction and hopelessness, using her own experience to encourage those seeking a fresh start.
According to Mosiria, Martha encouraged the patients not to lose hope, reminding them that recovery and transformation are possible regardless of their circumstances.
“I now use her to mentor others who are struggling with addiction and hopelessness,” Mosiria disclosed.
“Today, I accompanied her to visit those at the Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction so that she could encourage them and give them hope that one day they too will recover and transform their lives, just as she did.”
